HiTechnic Services for RDS

These RDS services are for HiTechnic sensors for the LEGO NXT. The services rely on the LEGO NXT V2 Brick service that is included in RDS.

This documentation includes details to help you to write your own services for RDS to work with the LEGO NXT.

Available Services

The following services for HiTechnic Sensors are available in the HiTechnicSensors package:
(The RDS package includes services for the HiTechnic Compass and Accelerometer.)

The following services for HiTechnic (TETRIX) Controllers are available in the HiTechnicControllers package:
NOTE: You cannot purchase the TETRIX controllers from the HiTechnic web site. You must buy them from the Lego Education web site.

Installation Instructions for HiTechnicSensors

Installation is easy, but you need to follow the instructions below.
  1. You must have Visual Studio and RDS already installed on your PC.
  2. Download the ZIP file and unzip it under your RDS installation folder. This should create a folder called HiTechnicSensors.
  3. Open a DSS Command Prompt. (You can find it in the Start Menu under Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio).
  4. Enter the following command at the prompt: DssProjectMigration /b- HiTechnicSensors
  5. Open HiTechnicSensors.sln in Visual Studio 2008 or 2010 and build the solution.
The services are now ready to be used.

NOTE: You might want to add an extra folder to put the HiTechnicSensors into.

Installation Instructions for HiTechnicControllers

Installation is easy, but you need to follow the instructions below.
  1. You must have Visual Studio and RDS already installed on your PC.
  2. Download the ZIP file and unzip it under your RDS installation folder. This should create a folder called HiTechnicControllers.
  3. Open a DSS Command Prompt. (You can find it in the Start Menu under Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio).
  4. Enter the following command at the prompt: DssProjectMigration /b- HiTechnicControllers
  5. Open HiTechnicControllers.sln in Visual Studio 2008 or 2010 and build the solution.
The services are now ready to be used.

NOTE: You might want to add an extra folder to put the HiTechnicSensors into.

Release Notes

The services are provided as source only -- there are no binary files. You must have Visual Studio 2008 or higher to compile the services. Before compiling, you need to run DssProjectMigration to make sure that the paths in the project file are correct.
The services have only been tested with RDS 2008 R2.

You will need to update the config files for the correct Sensor Port(s) on the NXT brick and the correct COM port for your connection to the brick from your PC.
